Animal Identification
Mandatory Microchip and Travel Documentation
The identification of dogs, cats and ferrets by microchip is mandatory in Spain. In Clínica Veterinaria Arenal, located in Jávea, we take care of implanting the chip in your pet and advise you on all the necessary documentation so you can travel with it legally and safely.

Microchip Implantation: The Key to Your Pet’s Safety
The microchip or transponder is placed under the skin of your pet’s neck and is about the size of a grain of rice. Each microchip code is unique, which greatly facilitates the identification of your dog, cat or other animal in case of loss:
- Fast localization:
- If your pet gets lost and arrives at a shelter or veterinarian, they will be able to contact you immediately by reading its microchip.
- Legal compliance:
- Spanish legislation requires microchip identification for dogs, cats and ferrets.
- Additional protection:
- By registering your pet's information, you increase the likelihood that it will be returned home as soon as possible.
In Veterinaria Arenal, we take care of implanting the microchip quickly and safely, ensuring the welfare of your companion.
European Pet Passport: Travel Within and Outside the EU
The European Animal Passport is an official document that certifies the identity of your pet and proves that it meets the health requirements for travel both inside and outside the European Union. In our veterinary clinic in Jávea, we take care of:

Traveling Outside the European Union
If you plan to travel outside the EU with your dog, cat or ferret, health requirements and vaccinations may vary depending on the regulations of each country. In Veterinaria Arenal, we will guide you:
- Mandatory and recommended vaccinations (e.g. against rabies, etc.).
- Waiting times after vaccination (some countries require a minimum period before authorizing the entry of the animal).
- Serological tests or additional analysis required by certain destinations.
- Supporting documentation which may include health certificates, antibody certificates, etc.
Keeping all these aspects up to date is essential to avoid problems at customs and to ensure the well-being of your pet during the trip.
